American Idol - Top 13!

The first week of real competition.  Idols chose songs by their idols and worked with the famous producers that will make them stars...did it work?

Lauren -
wow, what a let down.  choosing Shania was a great choice but she started the song halfway into it and her energy was pretty lame.  her outfit was stupid and it was just not that good.  Glad the judges agreed with me.  Liked her but I totally agree.  She needs to step it up into high gear.  I'm shocked the producers worked with her. OUCH!

Casey -
I loved how his voice worked with this song.  He made it kind of almost jazzy.  GET RID OF THE BACKGROUND SINGERS. they are distracting!  Wow, what a great performance, though!  He was in it to win it, unlike Lauren.

Ashton -
I think she is in trouble.  Working with huge producer Rodney Jerkins should have made this outrageous...but, I just didn't feel it.  I definitely think she stretched herself, but I'm not sure it worked.  Btw, people don't see you with an edge.  They don't know you.

Paul -
I really do love the sound of his voice, but I really didn't think this song went anywhere for this tv show. His oufit was great, but his dancing around this week was a little too weird.  I hope he stays another week, though, cause he is cool!

Pia -
Another terrific performance by Pia.  She was a tiny bit pitchy and maybe a little nervous, but overall really good.  She will definitely make it through this week, but it wasn't as good as Celine's.  You can tell she challenged herself though!

James -
I actually didn't like this guy during  auditions, Hollywood, or Vegas, but he has sure impressed me on  the stage.  His voice is just terrific and it was a  perfect surprising song choice.  Way to Go!

Haley -
Dammit! I wanted her to go home.  Then she had to go and do a really good performance!  Everything that was so wrong about her last week really worked this week.  Also, loved the blue dress.  Guess someone else has to go home...

Jacob -
He is still one of my favorites, but this was not my favorite.  He took it to another level but I'm not sure I liked that level.  It was just so over the top and I agree with Randy, he went off key or something.  I liked  how Jacob looked a little fresher, hipper, and younger.

Thea -
what horrible background music.  Thank God Thea's voice is so good.  I really liked a lot of it but I fear she might be in trouble.  It was a bit pitchy, I agree with Randy.

Stefano -
YES!!! I'm a huge Stefano fan but this was so terrific.  He was very jazzy and yet with the dance beat that kept coming up, he really gave it a different sound.  Sounds like Palow Da Don/Stefano is a good team!

Karen -
It wasn't the best of the night, but I loved it.  Karen looked so beautiful (almost like Jennifer Lopez).  I felt bad for her because it just wasn't a big moment for her...I hope America votes for her!

Scotty -
Scotty?!  Omg this was boring.  He was way better last week when he sat on that stool.  I did like the end though since he is such a cutie.  I was really surprised by the huge applause.

Naima -
I can't believe she worked with Tricky Stewart who produced Umbrella...too bad it was so BIZARRE!  Actual dancing?!  A ridiculous costume?  and not so great singing?  I'm not sure America will connect but I did like the rap.  I miss the other Naima from last week though.

MY TOP  -  Casey, Pia, James, Stefano

MY BOTTOM - I'm so sad to say this as these used to be some of my top.
Lauren, Ashton, Jacob, Scotty

the judges made such a great point that even though its great having the producers, the producers have to turn songs into a 1 min 40 sec. that seems to be a challenge for them as many of the songs were kind of odd so short.
